The 10th Annual Artsfest Film Festival will be held over four
days during the Memorial Day weekend in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. As
with past festivals, the Artsfest Film Festival will draw thousands
of film enthusiasts who will attend multi-genre film screenings at
multiple venues around the capital city of Harrisburg. The Artsfest
Film Festival is free for all audiences to attend, creating an
atmosphere unlike any other film festival.
Past filmmakers in attendance include Frank Whaley (Pulp
Fiction, Swimming with Sharks, The Doors), Richard Edson (Stranger
Than Paradise, Do The Right Thing), Mark Borchardt (American
Movie, Coven), David Redmon (Mardi Gras: Made in China),
Mark Eaton and John Swarr (Joe Kid on a Sting-Ray: The History of
BMX), Helen Stickler (Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator),
Kelly Baker (Bird Dog), and many others.
This year’s special guest will be filmmaker and independent
spirit John Waters, who will present a special lecture titled
“This Filthy World.”
Attending filmmakers receive discounted hotel rates and admission
to all events including any special speaking engagements, awards
ceremonies, and meet-and-greet parties.
The festival is juried by 5 members of the film community, and
awards are presented for Best Documentary, Best Narrative, Best
Experimental, Best Local Production, and Best of Show. This year’s
festival will feature three days of film screenings, a “midnight
madness” cult classic screening, a Q&A panel with attending
filmmakers, and a filmmakers meet and greet reception.
As in the past years, we are looking for comical, dramatic,
documentary, independent, avant-garde, personal, experimental, or
any other form of creative filmmaking that challenges the masses and
the 'Hollywood' aesthetic. We also encourage and spotlight animation
and pixelvision films and videos. We show film and video creations
made as a form of art, not as a means of making a profit at the
expense of our culture.
